Season 2010  has started check out the reports page

This web site is about fishing in the Lochs of Scotland for Salmon, Pike ,Perch and Ferox  Trout. The method of trolling used is adapted from the Great Lakes of the USA where they are at least 30 years ahead of us in the methods and techniques of trolling. There is a lot more  to trolling than just putting the outboard in gear and then dragging  lures around the Loch and hoping a fish will take it.

Many of the lochs I fish are trolled by "traditional trollers" who use 3 to 5 rods with the lures at varying lengths behind the boat but they are fished shallow 5 to 8 ft deep and usually in shallow water 10 to 15 ft deep. And the traditional routes and paths are followed as if they are on rails, you may for instance get 20 to 30 boats trolling the Endrick bank on Loch Lomond but they all stay in a 20yd wide strip hugging the drop off.....and they catch fish, but to me there is more to Loch Lomond  than that, you will get fish in the shallows AND the deeps.

It was the book "Sea Trout Fishing" by the late Hugh Falkus that first mentioned "deep trolling" in the book he refers to correspondence he had with an angler from Balloch who tried trolling in deeper water than usual with a deep water trolling rig. And the angler reported to Falkus that he had a fantastic start to season and catching fish when other boats were coming in empty handed. This angler unfortunately died before he could give this method a good try and then prove to others there are fish in the deeps (this was happening 30 years ago maybe if the angler had been able to continue his trial with the method we would be seeing more downriggers on the lochs)

The methods I use are Downriggers, Dipsy divers, Jet divers, Leadcore  and Planer boards with these I can fish in the shallows or down to 100 ft + and I can send the lures down to a specific depth and keep them there so they will run through fish seen on the Sonar screen.

I have given 2 email addresses because I know aol  tends to "dump" any emails it regards as spam or junk.
