TROLLING THE SCOTTISH LOCHS

selection of  trolling tackle/lures that are hard to come by in the UK. I aim to sell these items at a cost that matches or is as near to the equivalent cost in the USA.

Cut plug:  4¾" long with 100lb test bead chain swivel and 2 hook Eagle claw hooks on a 100lb test Dacron harness.@ £4.75 each

LURES.

In the past when I used to do more fly fishing  I would spend the close season tying fly's hoping to hit on that "Killer" pattern, and sometimes I did, with one particular pattern catching me 18 fish out of 23 one day. Now I spent more time trolling I have invested in an Airbrush and learned how to use it and I am now making and painting lures. My main  range of lures are primarily for Ferox and are painted to imitate their prey food such as Smolts, Trout, Perch and Char. To try and imitate Brown trout is pretty challenging with the vast range of colours and spot variations, one of the Brown trout patterns has 11different  coats/stages of paint.

From  my days as a kid when I used to fish Burns, you would get a trout from one pool that was golden brown with red spots and black and white edged fins, and then 50yds downstream in another pool the Trout would be black as the Ace of Spades with only a few red spots, so I reckon it will need 3 patterns minimum to cover the Brown trout or though you could go up to 5 or 6 to cover the variations from loch to loch.

Lure refinishing

The above thumbnails are of a 6" Creek Chub pikie refinished in various colours. This size of lure will cost £4.50 to re-paint in the colour of your choice.

Do you  have a favorite lure that is a bit tatty, or is not available in your favorite colour. I can repaint your spoons or Kynochs in any of the above colours/patterns, or if you have a personal favorite colour let me know and I will duplicate it if I can. All lures will be sanded, undercoated and repainted  at a cost of £1.75 each for spoons and £2.25 each for Kynochs/Cut plugs.           If required new Eagle claw hook and split rings can be added at .30p each.

Trolling weights

Keel  shaped trolling weights are essential  if you want to avoid line twist, you can use home-made devices using lead sheet cut into discs and folded over swivels. But proper trolling weights with cast in bead chain will out perform them every time, they are available in 3 sizes 1oz, 2¼ and 4oz.

The cost per weight is 1oz:£1.50,... 2¼oz £2.15,... 4oz £3.25.

Trolling weights with attractor blade.

The above weights are also available with an attractor blade. I have made these ones without the beadchain swivels this will hold the cost down to a reasonable level but it does not affect the anti line twist properties of the weights, I have trolled a large No 4 Mepp all day and have not had any problems with line twist. The link from the blade to the weight is articulated to stop any "hinging effect" when you are hopefully playing that monster  Ferox.

Cost per weight ...1oz...£1.35...2¼oz...£2.00...4oz...£3.15.

Downrigger cannonballs

I also cast cannonballs for downrigger trolling, I do one size at the moment:: 8lb the cost is £16.00, the cost of postage on this one is pretty steep £7.00 for one or £9.00 for 2, or the best option is if you fish Lochs Awe, Lomond, Earn, Arkaig would be to arrange to meet and I could then deliver them.

Attractors

Attractors are for bringing fish into your lures they add flash and noise and fish will come and investigate and then see your lure and this will hopefully entice them to hit your lure (When you watch a trout in a burn and throw a small twig or bit of gravel near it , it will turn and investigate the noise......attractors do the same thing).

 4 Bladed attractor £7.50.

They can be fished from Dipsys, Downriggers or flatline trolled using the keel weights above, the attractors I use have 2 different sizes of blades and consist of 4 blades 2 med and 2 large and an anti-kink vane. The med and large blades spin in different directions and this will help to avoid line twist. To use the attractors simply clip to the end of you line and then attach a 12" to18" length of line or if there are Pike in the waters you fish, clip a 12" to18" wire trace to the end of the attractor wire and attach your lure/bait to this, we use spoons, crankbaits  cut-plugs and deadbait rigs.

In-Line Attractor blade

This is an attractor single attractor blade that you can  add to your lure/bait by clipping it at the head of the lure with a duo lock snap or  by tying it a foot or two ahead of the lure to act as an inline attractor.

In-line attractor with 1½ long silver blade cost each..£0.85.

Used /Refurbished Tomic Plugs

I also have a supply of used Tomic plugs, they are  the 6" size and a few in 7" long. There is a wide range of colours, far too many to try and list (this page would end up being MASSIVE!!!!!!!!). So I have broken them up into colour groups Blue/silver, Chartreuse/silver and Green/silver. The plugs are in a used condition i.e.: there are some hook marks from trolling and more than a few with teeth marks!!! but they are in a good fishable condition, they are all fitted with new Eagle claw hooks and dacron hook harness. The cost of these plugs is £3.25 each

7" long Tomic plugs  re-painted to match the prey fish of Ferox Trout

The above Tomic plugs are being sold in sets of 5 lures, the cost of the 5 lures is £26.25 + post. The lures in the picture show one treble hook but the ones sold will have a second  treble fitted to act as a "stinger" hook.

Here it is!! the ultimate useless angling accessory, it is guaranteed not to catch you any fish. Have your mobile phone cover custom painted in Brown or Rainbow trout patterns or Perch, Char , Pike or if you have a favorite lure pattern you can have it in that. Cost £10.00 per phone cover, simply take off you cover and post to me it will take about a week to do.
