Trolling Trips

Book  a days trolling  on Loch Lomond, if you are interested in Downrigger Trolling and would like to try this method before taking the plunge into buying all the gear. We can take you out and give a days instruction and fishing the day can be tailored to suit the sort of techniques  you are interested in.

Trolling days start at 9am from Balmaha and last until 5 pm all tackle Rods ,Reels, Lures and Bait are supplied all you have to bring is suitable clothing for the weather which can and probably will range from rain the  bright sun even in the same day so plan for some changeable weather. We also supply lunch which  consists of a Fry up on one of the Islands. As I am self employed  the days that suit me best are Friday through to Monday but arrangements can be made for other days, work permitting.

Methods covered during the trip will be Downrigger Trolling, Dipsy Diver Trolling, Planer Boards, Leadcore and any other tips and tricks that might come up during the day.

The cost of a days fishing is £75.00 and that is for one or two anglers plus you will have to buy a Salmon permit at £15.00 for  fishing on any day other than a Sunday ( there is no Salmon fishing  in Scotland on a Sunday) any days booked for Sundays will be specifically for Pike when we will be trolling with larger lures 7" minimum or large Deadbaits.

Due to the interest from Anglers from England wanting a fishing trip we have started a  Weekend Break allowing you to fish for two days on the Loch .All you have to do is book a cheap flight to Glasgow Airport and you will be collected and taken to your accommodation. You can book  B&B in Balmaha and you will be a short walk to the Boatyard (5mins) accommodation ranges from Passfoot B&B, Bay Cottage B&B  the Oak tree Inn you can choose from B&B to Bunkhouse accommodation. The Oaktree Inn offers Restaurant and Bar meals and a warm fire and a Pint after your days fishing.

The cost of a weekend break including Airport Pick up is £230 and that is for one or two anglers, accommodation is your responsibility  the establishments mentioned above are the closest to the Boatyard and I would recommend early booking.  (google earth pic of boat yard)

Recently I have had contacts from anglers asking if I would be willing to provide a days  instruction or fishing trip. I had thought of doing the "fishing guide" thing in the past but the with the chances of catching a Ferox or Salmon on each trip being so low, I  would end up with anglers going away pissed off thinking  " "Huh I never even got a fish".

But from the emails I have received it seems that some anglers who are thinking about getting a downrigger are looking someone who can show them how to set it up and use it.........This I can do and if the fish are co-operative  you could end up with some good fish in the boat.

So what I can offer is a one day trolling trip that will cover the following techniques.

  • Downrigger trolling, sources to buy riggers to get the best value for YOUR money (don't buy from the UK) setting up and fitting the rigger to your boat how to set your sonar to "see" your cannonballs in the water , the pros and cons on the different types of line release, tips that make downrigger trolling a whole lot easier.

  • Dipsy diver trolling, how to set up and run dipsys, what type of lures you can run on them, line type and the effects it will have on how a dipsy will run.

  • Leadcore line, how to set up and run, where and when to use.

  • Planer boards, again how to set up and run, how to run boards for big fish (Pike and Ferox) or small fish (Perch and smaller Trout).

  • Jet divers, Three-way rigs, drop weight rigs and anything else I can cover in the course of the day.
